“So it isn’t just for women?!” I said when one of my co-workers, Brynn recommended and raved about the Bar Method. I thought, “Ok, I’ll try it, what do I have to lose!?”
I’ll have to give you some background of myself, I came from a small town in Michigan where I lived a very sedentary lifestyle. I didn’t work out, I was never active, and my idea of a good time was a large chocolate shake, a 40 piece mcnuggets and three double cheeseburgers from McDonalds. At my max weight I was 450 lbs. I was sick–I could barely move, I was extremely unhealthy and uncomfortable in my own skin.
I moved to Seattle in 2009 and never looked back, I started getting active and I eventually lost 200lbs through eating healthy and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. However, I was plateauing, my body severely needed toning and I tried everything– I was doing spin classes, lifting every day, yoga, running. It was time for a change–the weight loss just stopped. I then walked into my first class with Ashley and I never looked back. I was HOOKED! I’m going on two and a half months and I’ve lost several inches, 30 lbs, and I’ve gained a toned body.
What keeps me coming back is that every class is challenging–you can always go deeper in thigh, perfect your form in standing seat, or come into prayer in pretzel.
The instructor will call you out if you’re phoning it in during class–trust me– I’ve tried!
My advise to those who are on the fence? Try it. Your first class will be unbelievably challenging, but know that each and every person knows what it feels like and the incredibly supportive community will be there to help you every step of the way to your journey to success.
